Squad Objectives: |
- To compete at PNSC open meets with good commitment to the programme.
- Swimmers will be targeting all PNSC open meets with aspirations to qualify and compete at the Hampshire County Championships and potentially the South East Regionals and PNSC Open Meets.
- Swimmers should aim to reach their potential based on ability and commitment levels.

Squad Entry Criteria |
Attendance:
- Consistently attending 80-100% of training sessions in previous squad
- Consistently attending 80-100% of target competitions in previous squad
- 100% commitment to team events (National Arena League, County/Regional/National Relays)
Performance
- To have consistently competed in Level 3 or above competitions throughout the season
- All athletes must have times recorded on British rankings
- Proven ability and commitment to following a competitive training programme (swimmers, with parental support)
- Perform 3 x 200 individual medleys on a turnaround of 3:30
- Perform 10 x 100 front crawl on a turnaround time of 1:40
- Perform 4 x 100 Kick on 2:15
Attitude:
- Has demonstrated a good level of dedication to the sport
- A strong desire to listen, learn & act upon coach feedback
- A positive mind set with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances, attitude and attendance
- A team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic
Consideration: Lead Coach and Director of Swimming’s discretion. Swimmers assessed by the Head Coach to have near term potential and or having longer term potential may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of 3 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria |
Squad Training & Competition Criteria |
Attendance:
- Athletes should attend a minimum of 6 pool sessions, to include 1 weekday early morning, Saturday morning and a minimum of 2 land training session per week
- Training sessions will be agreed with the Lead Coach at the start of the
season to ensure a balanced programme adapted for individual needs
Performance:
- Consistently hold required times on pace work, for a range of strokes and distances
- Aim to improve stroke specific skills
- Aim to Qualify and compete at the Hampshire County Championships and Regional championships or above
- Training logs to be filled in after every training session including land
Test sets:
- Perform 5 x 200m front crawl on a turnaround time of 3:15
- Perform 5 x 200m individual medleys on a turnaround of 3:30
- Perform 3 x 200m kick on a turnaround time of 4:30
Attitude:
- Expected to take holidays at appropriate times in the year so not to disrupt training into key meets
- Follows the squad’s strength and conditioning programme
- Educated on and follows good nutrition & hydration
- Continuous desire to perfect technical skills
- Takes responsibility for injury prevention (pre-hab & stretching)
- Adherence to the PNSC Code of Conduct at all times

Squad Exit Criteria: |
- Unable to attain the relevant attendance, performance and attitude standards as set in the squad criteria
- Consistently late to sessions without prior agreement
- Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the Lead Coaches planning or without their consent

- Not meeting criteria - A move into Club Squad
- AmovetoMastersforSwimmers18/+to be discussed with Lead coach
- Exceeds performance levels – possibility for a move into National Squad or Regional Age Squad
